Fresh Ink: An Anthology by various authors
Careful--you are holding fresh ink. And not hot-off-the-press, still-drying-in-your-hands ink. Instead, you are holding twelve stories with endings that are still being written--whose next chapters are up to you. Because these stories are meant to be read. And shared.Thirteen of the most accomplished YA authors deliver a label-defying anthology that includes ten short stories, a graphic novel, and a one-act play. This collection will inspire you to break conventions, bend the rules, and color outside the lines. All you need is fresh ink.A collection of 12 short stories, of extremely varying plot lines, all written by authors of color. It's hard to rate this book because there are twelve stories in it. So, I averaged all of my ratings for the grand total above. (Which was technically 2.979 stars, but who's counting?) Here's the total breakdown of each story:
Eraser Tattoo: 1 starMeet Cute: 2 starsDon't Pass Me By: 3 starsBe Cool For Once: 5 starsTags: 3 starsWhy I Learned to Cook: 3.25 starsA Stranger at the Bonchinche- 3.5 StarsA Boys Duty: 2.75 starsOne Voice: 3.75 starsPaladin/Samurai: 1 starCatch, Pull, Drive: 2.5 starsSuper Human: 5 stars
Overall, I would skip this anthology- which is not a rare thing for me. It's even more rare for me to like an anthology enough to recommend it (See my review of Almost Midnight for a 5 star short story book!) There were a few good stories in there- particularly the last story by Nicola Yoon, who is actually the author that made me pick this up in the first place. The worst part about short stories is that they leave you wanting more! The best part is the ones that you are not enjoying are over pretty quickly. haha.Watch: followed by American Crime Story: OJ SimpsonFollow: Tomi Adeyemi on twitterClick here: Fresh Ink: An Anthology
