Trixie Watson has two very important goals for senior year: to finally save enough to buy the set of Doctor Who figurines at the local comic books store, and to place third in her class and knock Ben West--and his horrendous new mustache that he spent all summer growing--down to number four. Trixie will do anything to get her name ranked over Ben's, including give up sleep and comic books--well, maybe not comic books--but definitely sleep. After all, the war of Watson v. West is as vicious as the Doctor v. Daleks and Browncoats v. Alliance combined, and it goes all the way back to the infamous monkey bars incident in the first grade. Over a decade later, it's time to declare a champion once and for all. The war is Trixie's for the winning, until her best friend starts dating Ben's best friend and the two are unceremoniously dumped together and told to play nice. Finding common ground is odious and tooth-pullingly-painful, but Trixie and Ben's cautious truce slowly transforms into a fandom-based tentative friendship. When Trixie's best friend gets expelled for cheating and Trixie cries foul play, however, they have to choose who to believe and which side they're on--and they might not pick the same side.Crazy smart teens with fandom obsessions with comics, experience drama of love and school ranking their senior year.Shout out to Trixie's parents! They were fun and also realistic.I loved all of the fandom references in this book. I am not a diehard DC comic fan, I never made it through the first episode of Dr.Who, and I actually am not sure I've read a Marvel comic (I love the movies though, does that count for anything?) - but I soaked up every ounce of nerdery in this book!  My personal favorite was instead of cursing and saying "Oh my God" they went with "Oh my Thor" or variations such as those.  Really had me cracking up while I read it!I was rooting for the characters that got together! That doesn't always happen for me, so that's another win for this book!There was a small mystery in this book that is solved at the very end- I had no idea who the culprit behind the shenanigans was and that is RARE for me! MAJOR points to this book, because all of my PBS Masterpiece Mysteries did NOT pay off for this book.Trixie got on my nerves quite a few times. She wasn't exactly unlikable, but she was too mean sometimes.  And I get that, I have a propensity for bluntness too - but her feud with Ben was a little over the top for me.Confessional time... I had to look up quite a few words while reading this book- I know they are in a school for the gifted, but wow! What a grandiloquence they had!There was supposed to be a little twist thrown in there about a plotline. I saw it coming.
