Geekerella by Ashley Poston

For the goodreads blurb, go here.my blurb: modern day cinderella with fanfiction.3 out of 5Okay let's get to it. My biggest problem with the book is the character of Elle, who just feels like she has to do everything that her stepmonster tells her to.  I know, it's the premise for Cinderella- but let's be honest, it is also the most annoying part of Cinderella.  All you want her to do is grow a back bone and be in charge of her own life.  In the classic Cinderella sense you can accept it, saying that in those times  what woman moved out and lived basically alone? Okay I guess snow white kind of. But you get my point.  But in the modern retelling, you think.  Okay, move in with a friend. Problem solved.Of course the story line was predictable because again, it's a retelling of Cinderella. And it was also corny.  Which can be appealing, depending on what kind of mood you're in.  I mean, I can't tell you how many times I've watched the movie Monte Carlo, so I'm not judging!Okay the perks, Darien was really likable. Except his name sucks.  I just couldn't fall in love with a Darien.  But overall I liked him.  And Sage was a really fun spitfire sidekick.  Will someone please write a book about sidekicks?! Because they are really where it's at. (ps. I know I've mentioned it before but Kasie West's Pivot Point series. The second book is about the sidekick best friend)Another perk, the star trek meets firefly like TV show fan fic that they were all so into.  It was very likable.  I wish it was a real series!Overall, I'd read this on a summer beach read. Not amazing, but easy to escape into..Dux.
