Let’s start off by saying that this book features abuse. Emotional and physical. It’s not a side topic but a main storyline.

This is my third Abby book! I like the little Easter eggs and cross over moments from her previous books to her current books. It reminds me a lot of Sarah Dessen!

Around 60-70% I thought there was no way that this could be more than 3.5 stars. Mainly because for the WHOLE book Alexis struggles with the same things, is an awful communicator (especially considering how often they were on the phone together), she was secretive and took forever to have an epiphany moment. She actually mostly sucked. I didn’t feel like she was a very present and good friend to her BFF Bri who was going through something major. But really- she didn’t respect Daniel enough to tell him things that he deserved to know! MADDENING.

But the truth is, I did love the end of the book! Perhaps if it was shorter so I didn’t have to deal with Alexis being lame for so long, this could’ve been a five star read for me. But as it was- this is a 3.75-4 star read for me.

Also it should be mentioned that I LOVED Daniel! He is book boyfriend material for sure! There was literally nothing I didn’t like about Daniel. Alexis focused a lot on his age (this is an age gap romance… I think she’s ten years older than him but I can’t remember)…but wow did he handle everything in life so maturely! Even when reality hits the fan, he responds so reasonably! Meanwhile, Alexis…🙄. But I digress…

Bri is the BFF in this book and I absolutely loved every scene with her in it. I cannot wait for her book!!

Lastly, the town that Daniel lived in. I LOVED it. It reminded me of the feelings I get about Green Valley from the Winston Brothers books by Penny Reid. The town hugged out and was a little bit magical. I wish I could visit, and can’t wait til I can visit again in another Abby Jiminez book!

there is a phrase in the book that was repeated over and over again (perhaps two too many times but still…): Grace costs you nothing. I loved that! That will rattle around in my head for a long time!

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it that way!
