Eliza and Her Monsters by Francesca Zappia
I know some people are going to think this should have been rated higher. I've read the reviews but don't worry the only review that really matters is mine. And here it is...The premise- I loved it, I'm not a big fan fiction person myself, but there is no reason why I couldn't be. In fact if I was, I would fix the travesty that was Lane and Zac in Gilmore Girls and get Lane back together with Henry. Oh ya, I'm writing about a book. So I loved the premise.Problem #1- I could not picture Wallace AT ALL. HUGE football player who doesn't speak and loves writing fan fiction. Anyone picturing someone there? Didn't think so.Eliza- I could see her person. I couldn't identify with her very well, but I knew her and I liked her. And also, I'm glad she took the clothes her mom got her, because skinny white girl in way too big of clothes, who doesn't talk to anyone and carries around a sketchbook... ya I'm glad she took the clothes, and she's glad she took the clothes.I felt her obsession with her Monstrous Sea and I believed every bit of it. I felt the pressure she was under, and when she missed Christmas- I just knew her angst. Also, I loved her little sub plot of fandom for Children of Hypnos, definitely the same vibe as Hazel Grace and Augustus writing to the author of Imperial Affliction in The Fault in Our Stars (cough cough, required reading if you haven't read that one yet)Problem #2 - I was sure that her two online friends had a side story going on. They did not. And that disappointed me. Literally for no reason, they didn't need a side story- I just thought for sure there was one.Okay that's not that many problems, but you're just going to have to trust me that having that hang up with Wallace really put a damper on the book. He just wasn't real to me, so I wasn't "shipping" them in any way.Side note- people who liked Fangirl and Carry On by Rainbow Rowell will probably also like this bookBest Quote: "Desire is the fuel of creators, and when we have that, motivation will come in its wake.".Dux.
